Judge Timothy B. Taylor was appointed to the San Diego Superior Court by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in January, 2005. He was elected to six-year terms in 2006, 2012 and 2018. Before becoming a judge, Taylor practiced law with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton for more than 20 years.

Since his appointment to the bench, Judge Taylor has been assigned to handle criminal cases, family law cases, and civil cases. He has served in the Downtown, El Cajon and Chula Vista courthouses. For 15 years (2008-2023) he had a civil independent calendar assignment, and he was the Supervising Judge for the Civil Division of the Court from 2014-2017. He presently has a civil trial assignment in the Central Courthouse. Judge Taylor was profiled in the Los Angeles Daily Journal on April 9, 2008 and on March 23, 2017.
